Long Live the Crone

The crone, one of many feminine archetypes, is often categorized and marginalized as something negative. The crone is largely misunderstood because the crone has the power to give and take life. The crone stands at the crossroads providing guidance on which way to turn. The crone’s voice can be loud and boisterous or subtle and soft. She is powerful in whichever form she presents. The crone does not fear life. Men, however, fear the crone. It is for this reason men seek to oppress women and the crone.

For centuries, patriarchal social constructs have led to the oppression of women and the development of sexism. Men have used this patriarchal system to gain the power to legislate laws, enforce those laws, determine what needs to be taught to whom, and who has a voice. Women had no voice under this largely, exclusively free white male system...

This movie explores Europe from the 15th through the 17th centuries, a time when the church and state cooperated in the torture and execution of thousands of women accused of being witches.
